The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) yesterday launched a series of public participation forums in Nyeri County on the proposed expansion and dualling of key county roads.
Its aligned with the ongoing Kenol-Marua carriageway upgrade.
The government is also looking forward to extend the dual carriageway from Marua to Kiganjo, Nanyuki upto Isiolo town.
The first session, held at ACK Church Hall in Nyeri Central Sub-county, was moderated by environmental experts from Wanjohi Mutonyi Consult Ltd., the consultancy contracted by KeNHA to undertake the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA).
The forums aim to inform residents about the project, collect public views, and incorporate feedback into preliminary designs before submission to KeNHA for approval.
The 64+ km project covers Nyeri Central and Kieni West sub-counties and includes:
- Dualling of the MaruaβNyeri Road
- Upgrading of the KRA Nyeri Office intersection
- Upgrading of the River Chania Bridge intersection
- Upgrading of the National Oil intersection at King’ong’o
- Dualling of the NyeriβNyahururu highway
- Dualling of the New Nyeri Bypass
Among those in attendance were Duncan Mathenge Maina (Nyeri Town MP), Wainaina Njoroge (Kieni MP) and KNCCI Nyeri Chapter Chairman Ibrahim Ndegwa.
