Kenya’s 2027 presidential race is increasingly taking shape as a three-horse contest, a development that is quietly raising concern within political and security circles.
According to high-level security sources, the emerging battle lines suggest a fierce showdown between President William Ruto’s broad-based government—reportedly working in close alignment with Oburu Oginga—and a resurgent United Opposition front led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua.

Also gaining notable traction is the “Linda Mwananchi” brigade linked to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, which is steadily building grassroots support and positioning itself as a potential third force in the race.
A source who spoke to DNK-International on condition of anonymity downplayed the prospects of other potential contenders, including Eliud Owalo, Prof. George Wajackoyah, activist Boniface Mwangi, Dr. Isaac Newton Kinity, Martha Karua, and former Chief Justice David Maraga, terming them unlikely to significantly influence the outcome unless they align with one of the three dominant camps.

The source further observed that early political consolidation within the three blocs is already setting the stage for what could be one of the most competitive and high-stakes elections in Kenya’s recent history.
With alliances hardening and political temperatures gradually rising, concerns are mounting over possible tensions as the country edges closer to the 2027 polls.
