Chickens Thief Burnt to Death by Mob in Tharaka-Nithi

A man suspected of stealing two chickens was burnt to death by an angry mob in Toonto Village, Kamwimbi Location, Igambang’ombe, Tharaka-Nithi County.

According to a police report, the incident was reported by Kamwimbi Assistant Chief Luka Ireri, who informed police that a man had been attacked by members of the public at around 1:30 p.m.

Officers from Kathwana Police Station rushed to the scene and found the burnt body of Mugendi Maithya, aged about 30, at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had been accused of stealing two chickens belonging to an unidentified owner.

The two chickens were recovered at the scene.

The scene was documented and processed by forensic officers before the body was removed to Chuka Level 5 Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Police have launched investigations into the killing, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Chuka North handling the case.
