Senior Kenya Army Officer Killed After Crashing Into Stationary Lorry on Nakuru–Mogotio Road

A senior Kenya Army officer died on the spot after his vehicle rammed into a stationary lorry along the Nakuru–Mogotio Road in Rongai, Nakuru County on Monday night.

The fatal crash occurred at about 10:50 p.m. in the Mercy Njeri area and involved a Toyota Rush and a Fuso lorry.

Police identified the deceased as Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Chebii who was attached to the Kenya Army in Eldoret.

He was reportedly driving from Nakuru towards Kabarnet when his vehicle collided with the stationary lorry, which is said to have been left dangerously parked on the roadway.

According to preliminary investigations, the lorry’s driver, Philemon Kosgei had left the vehicle to purchase fuel.

He was not injured in the incident.

The impact of the collision left the Toyota Rush extensively damaged, while Lt. Col. Chebii succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

His body was moved to Umash Funeral Home pending post-mortem examination, and the wreckage of his vehicle was towed to the police station for inspection.

The lorry was also taken to the station after it was refuelled.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash, with the case being treated as pending under investigation (P.U.I.).
