Drunkard Son Arrested After Burning Mother’s Sh1.5 Million Home in Kakamega

A man aged 29 has been arrested after allegedly setting his mother’s house on fire following a disagreement over the sale of family land in Kakamega County.

The incident occurred on Monday night at around in Ekama Village, Nabongo Location, Mumias West.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Rajab Waluchio Manganya is said to have arrived home while intoxicated and demanded that his 55 year old mother, Mwanashi Wanga, sell a parcel of family land.

When she refused, the suspect is reported to have set their dwelling house ablaze using a mattress.

The fire completely destroyed the house, with the property estimated to be worth about Sh1.5 million.

Residents responded to the incident and managed to apprehend the suspect before handing him over to officers from Mumias Police Station.

Police officers who visited the scene confirmed that the house had been razed by the fire.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

The suspect remains in police custody as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Mumias West continue with investigations before he is arraigned in court.
