By Our Correspondent,Meru.

Police in Meru have arrested two suspects, including a house help, in connection with a robbery in which a 50 year old woman lost approximately Sh500,000 in cash and three mobile phones.

The incident occurred on September 10 at around 1.00am in Gikumene Kiera Village, Imenti North when two armed men broke into Catherine Macharia’s bedroom, threatened and restrained her before stealing the valuables.

The suspects reportedly locked her inside the bedroom before fleeing.

The victim raised an alarm and was assisted by two Nyumba Kumi personnel.

She also reported that her house help, Lilian Kathambi, had disappeared shortly before the robbery.

Investigators found no visible signs of forced entry, although the doors were open.

Following intelligence led investigations, DCI officers arrested Bernard Mwaniki, 26, and Lilian Kinya, 18, identified as Mwaniki’s wife and the complainant’s house help, during an operation in Kathura, Tharaka Nithi County.

Police recovered a new green Shinnery motorcycle without a registration number, two mobile phones, including a Redmi, and two suitcases suspected to be linked to the robbery.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the motorcycle was purchased on September 12, two days after the incident.

The suspects remain in police custody as officers prepare to present them before the Meru Law Courts to face robbery with violence charges.

Police are pursuing two other suspects identified as “Dere” and Laban, who remain at large.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Imenti North, is handling the case.
