Uchaguzi 2027/282 days:Atwoli warns Sifuna against dividing Mulembe nation ahead of 2027 polls

By Our Correspondent,Khwisero.

Long-serving Central COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has warned Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna against pursuing his 2027 presidential ambitions, claiming the Linda Mwananchi movement could divide Luhya votes and undermine the community’s chances of influencing the next president.

Atwoli argued that divisions within the Mulembe nation could weaken its political bargaining power ahead of the 2027 General Election, when President William Ruto will be seeking re-election for a second term.

He announced that he would team up with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to convene a major Luhya political forum at Bukhungu Stadium on December 26, where participants are expected to endorse Ruto’s re-election bid.

According to Atwoli, him together with Mudavadi plan to mobilise supporters from across the Mulembe nation, with two to three buses expected to ferry participants from every ward to the gathering.

However, Atwoli’s critics have dismissed the planned meeting as a political strategy aimed at undermining Sifuna’s presidential ambitions and consolidating support for Ruto within the Luhya community.

Some critics have also challenged Atwoli to retire from trade union leadership and allow younger leaders to take over, arguing that the political future of the community should not be dictated by a few established figures.

The planned Bukhungu meeting is expected to test the competing political interests within the Mulembe nation as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
