Archbishop Kivuva Warns Early Campaigns Are Fueling Chaos, Economic Strain

By Tobby Otum.

Mombasa Catholic Diocese Archbishop Martin Kivuva has called for an end to premature election campaigns.

He sent a passionate appeal to the political class to tone down their premature political campaigns and rhetoric with almost one year to the 2027 general election.

“The current premature campaigns are not healthy and I ask the political class to end it,” he said.

Kivuva asked them to hold their horses and to wait for the official campaigns to kick off.

He was addressing the media after he presided over Ash Wednesday service held at the Mombasa Holy Ghost Cathedral in Mombasa county.

The Mombasa Catholic Diocese Archbishop called on Kenyans to continue to dedicate their prayers to the Almighty God before the election one year to come.

Kivuva told the media the current premature campaigns has plunged the country into chaos and has led to the loss of lives.

He pointed out that the political rhetoric has put the country in an electioneering mood before the official campaigns kick off.

“We are not happy with the current political rhetoric underway,” he said.

He asked the relevant authority to ensure an end to the premature campaigns which hurt the country’s economy towards next year’s polls.

Kivuva said the country can engage in better activities at the moment rather than political rhetoric.
