Police in Athi River East, Machakos County, are investigating a case of robbery with violence and gang rape.
This is after a family was attacked inside their home at Myland Phase I estate.
They also defiled a 12 years old girl.
According to a report recorded at Muungano Police Station,the incident occurred on Friday at about 7.30pm.
The attack was reported by a 51 year-old man, who told police that he was at home with his wife and daughter when three men armed with crude weapons forcibly gained entry into their compound through the back door.
The suspects immediately demanded money from the couple.
In the course of the ordeal, the attackers tied the manโs hands and legs with pieces of cloth and assaulted him, his wife, and their daughter, who is a minor.
The gang then made away with mobile phones and Sh 2,500 in cash.
According to him the situation escalated further when the suspects gang raped his wife aged 45 amd defiled the 12 year old daughter before fleeing the scene.
Officers from Muungano Police Station later visited the scene, and the case has been classified as robbery with violence and a sexual offence.
Police in the area said that investigations over the matter are ongoing,
Residents of the area have expressed concern over rising insecurity and are calling for increased police patrols to protect families from violent criminal attacks.
