Nthangu Mixed Day and Boarding Secondary School in Makueni has been broken into and school equipments stolen.
It was raided by a gang of suspected thieves who tied up watchmen and escaped with electronic equipment in a daring operation.
According to a report filed at Makueni Police Station, the incident was reported by the school principal Munywoki Kavutai, after guards alerted him that unknown persons had raided the institution during the night.
Police investigations reveal that four suspects allegedly gained entry into the school compound by cutting through the perimeter fence behind classrooms.
The intruders reportedly confronted two watchmen on duty, overpowered and tied them, before proceeding to the administration block.
Once inside, the suspects broke the main door and ransacked several offices, making away with a 32 inch LG television set from the bursar’s office, a music sound mixer and two microphones from the deputy principal’s office, as well as three mobile phones, including a school phone make Infinix Hot Lite.
The value of the stolen items is yet to be established.
After the raid, the watchmen were left tied near the school gate but later managed to free themselves and raise the alarm.
They told police that the suspects were wearing jungle jackets and face masks, raising suspicion of possible criminal sophistication.
Officers from Makueni Police Station, led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and accompanied by DCI officers and Scenes of Crime personnel, visited the scene to document evidence and commence investigations.
In a twist, the two watchmen Justus Musyoka Mulwa (58) and Patrick Muthama (53) were arrested to assist police with investigations as detectives probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have urged schools and institutions in the region to enhance night security amid rising concerns over organized break ins.
