The chairperson of Atheists in Kenya, Harrison Nyende Mumia will know on Thursday whether his bail terms will be reduced from Sh500 000 to Sh50 000 or not.
Appearing before Milimani court Magistrate Rose Ndobi today where the accused was charged with allegedly publishing false and misleading images of President William Ruto on social media platforms,his lawyers led by Lempaa Soyinka made an application to have the bail terms reduced.
Mumia was charged with several counts under the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018, after prosecutors accused him of circulating doctored images suggesting that the Head of State was critically ill or dead.
The accused was released on a cash bail of Ksh.500,000 pending further proceedings.
Court documents indicate that the alleged offence occurred on December 30, 2025 at an undisclosed location within the country.
The prosecution claims Mumia knowingly shared false information through Facebook and Instagram, fully aware that the content was untrue.
According to the charge sheet, Mumia allegedly operated a Facebook account under the name Robinson Kipruto Ngetich through which he published images portraying President Ruto lying on a bed and falsely implying that he had died or was in critical condition.
Similar allegations are contained in additional counts relating to posts made on Instagram via the account @harrisonmumia.
He’s being held at Industrial area prison,Nairobi.
