A brave nurse in Homa Bay county narrowly escaped a violent robbery after courageously confronting an armed assailant who attempted to rob him at his residence within a health facility compound.
The incident occurred on Sunday night at around 11:00 p.m. at Homa Lime Health Center in Koguta Sub-location, Rachuony.
In a police report seen by DNK-International indicated that Robert Omuga, a nurse at the facility, was inside his house located within the health center compound when an unknown man knocked on his door requesting medical treatment.
Believing the individual to be a patient in need, Omuga opened the door.
However, the situation quickly turned dangerous when the suspect allegedly pointed a pistol at the nurse and demanded that he surrenders all his cash and valuables.
In a bold move, Omuga engaged the armed suspect in a physical struggle and managed to grab the pistol from him.
During the confrontation, the attacker bit the nurse on his left hand.
Despite the injury, Omuga pushed the assailant out of the house and quickly locked himself inside.
He then raised alarm, prompting neighbors to rush to his aid, but by the time they arrived the suspect had already fled the scene.
Fearing for his safety, the nurse spent the rest of the night at a neighbor’s house until morning.
Police officers from Nyangwete Police Post together with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Rachuonyo North visited the scene today morning.
Upon inspecting the house, officers recovered a pistol magazine loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition on the floor, believed to have fallen during the struggle.
The magazine was collected and kept as an exhibit as investigations continue.
Authorities have launched efforts to trace and arrest the suspect.
