A 40 year old man is nursing serious injuries after he was violently attacked by his brothers in an alleged attempt to forcibly subject him to an illegal re circumcision ritual in Bogesi Village, Bwirege West Location, Migori County.
The incident, which was reported at Ntimaru Police Station is reported to have occurred in the early hours of Monday at around 1:20 a.m.
According to the report, the matter was reported by Migori County Gender Chief Executive Secretary, Beth Samburu, who stated that the victim, identified as Marwa Mwita Kuria, was attacked while at his home.
The victim was allegedly assaulted by his brothers Mwala Mbeche, Nyasika Grazen, and John Basuma who were armed with blunt and sharp objects.
Police say the assailants intended to forcibly take him through an illegal circumcision exercise.
When the victim resisted, he was struck on the head and both shoulders, sustaining severe injuries
During the attack, the suspects also vandalised the victim’s house, destroying iron sheets using blunt objects.
Police officers who were on patrol responded swiftly after receiving the distress report and rescued the victim from the scene.
He was rushed to Ntimaru SubCounty Hospital for emergency treatment before being referred to Migori County Referral Hospital for specialised medical care.
No arrests had been made by the time of filing the report, and police at the Station have taken over investigations into the matter.
Authorities have condemned the incident, reiterating that forced circumcision is illegal and a violation of human rights.
