Bukhayo West Residents Accuse MCA of Abandonment, Threaten Protests

By Our Reporter, Busia.

Residents of Bukhayo West Ward in Matayos Constituency have accused their Member of County Assembly (MCA), Peter Tallam, of abandoning them after the 2022 elections, saying his absence has worsened already dire living conditions.

Speaking to journalists the residents said the MCA,a former prison officer has been largely invisible since assuming office, leaving the ward without leadership as basic services deteriorate.

“The MCA ignored us completely. We are on our own,” said Xavier Lugaga, a farmer in the area.

“He was only interested in being elected. After that, he disappeared.”

Residents painted a grim picture of the ward’s state, citing impassable roads, unreliable borehole water, dilapidated health facilities, and poorly serviced markets that have hurt trade and access to essential services.

“Our roads are in a horrible state. When it rains, transport becomes impossible. Water from the borehole is unreliable, and the hospital facilities are in dire need,” said one resident. “Markets have been neglected, and traders are suffering.”

The residents have now appealed to Matayos MP Odanga to intervene and push for urgent action to address the service delivery gaps.

They also called on Busia Governor Dr Paul Otuoma to step in, warning that patience is running out.

If no action is taken, residents said they would organize protests to demand accountability and visible leadership in the ward.

Efforts to reach MCA Peter Tallam for comment were unsuccessful by the time of publication.
