Residents of Busia County are preparing to warmly receive President William Ruto who is expected in the region for a highly anticipated development tour scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, March 16 and 18, 2026.
The visit by the Head of State is expected to mark a significant milestone for the county as several transformative projects are set to be inspected, launched, and commissioned during the two-day tour.
County leaders and residents alike have expressed excitement ahead of the President’s visit, describing it as a major boost to development in the border county. The projects lined up for inspection and launch include the construction of key road networks aimed at improving connectivity, modern markets designed to empower traders, and student hostels expected to enhance learning infrastructure for young people in the region.
A major highlight of the tour will be the groundbreaking ceremony for a modern 10,000-seater Busia Stadium in the border town—an ambitious project expected to nurture sports talent and stimulate economic activity in the area.
Local leadership welcomed the visit, saying the projects reflect a strong working relationship between the county leadership and the National Government.
“We are proud to be part of these transformative developments made possible through our strategic collaboration with the National Government,” a county leader said while confirming the visit. “Strong partnerships create greater opportunities for our county and ensure our people receive their rightful share of national development.”
Leaders also expressed gratitude to President Ruto for prioritizing Busia in his national development agenda and for maintaining close ties with the region.
They noted that the planned projects will significantly improve livelihoods, open up business opportunities, and accelerate socio-economic growth in Busia County.
Residents have now been urged to turn up in large numbers to give the President a warm welcome when he arrives for the development tour.
“We sincerely thank the President for initiating these important projects in Busia and for remaining a close and dependable friend to the people of Busia. Let us all come out and extend a warm reception to the Head of State,” the leaders said.
The development tour is expected to draw leaders from across the county and neighboring regions, as Busia positions itself for a new chapter of growth driven by national government investment.
The President who arrived in Kakamega today evening is in his five days tour of Western region expected to tour other three counties of Kakamega,Vihiga and Bungoma too.
