Calls for Urgent Action Over Poor Drainage at Kisumu National Polytechnic

By Our Reporter,Kisumu.

Concerned members of the Kisumu National Polytechnic community have issued an urgent appeal to the institution’s management to address persistent poor drainage, particularly at the main gate, which has continued to disrupt movement and pose safety risks.

The stakeholders are also calling on the Kisumu City County Government, through the City Manager’s office, to intervene by developing a comprehensive drainage design and implementing a lasting solution.

According to the concerns raised, the proposed drainage plan should cover the entire stretch from Moi Stadium to Joyland School gate to effectively manage stormwater flow and prevent frequent flooding.
In addition, the proposed design is expected to extend to other flood-prone areas including Kisumu Boys Roundabout, Patels Flats, Corner Legio, Metameta, Call Box, Lovbar, and parts of Koyango.

The concerned parties argue that a coordinated and well planned drainage system will not only improve accessibility to the institution but also enhance public safety and sanitation in the surrounding neighbourhoods, especially during the rainy season.

They are now urging both the polytechnic management and the county government to treat the matter as urgent and prioritise infrastructure upgrades to avert further deterioration.
