Cash Vanishes from Locked Car Outside Church after withdrawal from KCB bank

A school principal in Siaya County is counting losses after thieves made away with Sh120,000 and critical personal documents from his locked vehicle in a brazen daytime theft in Bondo town.

According to a report made at Bondo Police Station, the incident occured at about 4:45pm.

The complainant,Alex Onyando Okwama, the principal of Migowa Secondary School in Rarieda,told police that the theft occurred shortly after 4:10pm.

Okwama reported that earlier in the afternoon he had withdrawn Sh56,000 from KCB Bank in Bondo.

The money was placed in a bag that already contained Sh64,000 he had withdrawn from the same bank on February 23, 2026.

The cash was intended to pay school employees once they resume from the half term break.

While driving back to Rarieda, he stopped briefly to buy vegetable seeds.

He parked vehicle beside the road opposite the Catholic Church gate in Bondo town and walked approximately 40 metres to Zilmark Agrovet.

The Principal,stated that he locked the vehicle and left the bag on the passenger seat.

After about ten minutes, he returned to the car only to discover that the bag was missing.

Police officers visited the scene with preliminary findings indicating that the vehicle was intact, with no visible signs of break in, raising concerns that the theft may have been executed with precision or prior knowledge.

Items stolen from the vehicle include a bag containing Sh120,000, three original national identity cards belonging to Okwama, his wife and his son, a disability card, a driving licence, a Huduma Namba card, and ATM cards for KCB Bank and National Bank of Kenya.

Police are appealing to members of the public with any information that could assist in tracing the suspects to come forward.
