Two people were killed in a brazen pre dawn militant attack in Hulugho, Garissa County today after armed assailants stormed homes near Hulugho Police Station, police have confirmed.
According to an incident report recorded at Hulugho Police Station,the attack occurred at about 1.30am before being formally reported at 7.00am.
The attackers first targeted the home of Boma Location Chief Abdifatah Mohamud Owl, located about 400 from the police station.
The assailants forced their way into the house and shot the chief dead.
They later detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) on his Probox vehicle, registration number KDP 829T, destroying it.
After the initial attack, the militants moved to the home of Hulugho Primary School teacher Stephen Vundi Musili, situated approximately one kilometre from the police station.
Police say the teacher was dragged out of his house and later shot dead about 100 metres away.
Security officers visited both scenes, documented the incidents and took necessary action as investigations were launched.
The area has since been placed under heightened security amid fears of further attacks.
The killings have heightened anxiety among residents of Hulugho, a region that has previously faced security challenges linked to militant activity near the Kenya–Somalia border.
