A five year old boy has died after he and three siblings were attacked by a swarm of bees while playing at their home in Mumias West, Kakamega County.
According to a police report from Musanda Police Station, the incident was reported by Maurice Ongoma Wereche, a resident of Nyamila Village in Ishikalame Sub-location.
The father said the four children were playing within their family compound on March 7, 2026 at about 3:30pm when they were suddenly attacked by bees.
Neighbours and family members managed to rescue them before they were rushed to St. Irene Hospital in Musanda for emergency treatment.
One of the children, identified as Stevan Jeremiah Ongoma, a five year old PP1 pupil at St Irene ECD, succumbed to the injuries at around 2:30am while undergoing treatment.
The other three children,David Weresha 9, Nobel Anabaka 7 and Nicky Ongoma 6 were treated and later discharged from the hospital in fair condition.
Police said the body of the deceased has been moved to the Butere Sub County Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.
