Worshippers at a Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) in Kanyama village were left in shock after unknown thieves broke into the church and made away with valuable property in a daring daytime burglary.

According to a report recorded at Kiamachimbi Police Station on Wednesday, the incident was discovered by the church chairlady, Lily Martin.

She told police that at about noon, she went to the Church to carry out routine cleaning when she found the back door open and a broken padlock lying on the floor.

Upon entering the sanctuary,Lily noticed that the priest’s changing room had also been forced open, with its padlock similarly removed and left on the ground.

A further check revealed that several items had been stolen, including two speakers, three speaker stands, a piano, two thermos flasks, holy communion cups, assorted electronic items, a black bag and a microphone.

Police officers promptly visited and processed the scene, where it was established that the suspects gained entry by breaking the church’s back door.

The exact time of the break in could not be established.

It was also noted that the church is not fitted with CCTV surveillance cameras.

No arrests had been made by the time of reporting, and the case remains pending under investigations, with the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kiamachimbi handling the matter.

Residents and church members have called for increased vigilance and security measures to protect places of worship from rising cases of burglary in the area.
