Clan Elder Hospitalised After Panga Attack in Ogembo Over School Dispute

A clan elder is fighting for his life after he was brutally attacked with a panga in Gucha,Kisii county.

The incident is linked to a man who refused to take his children to school.

According to police,the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in Nyansakia Sub Location, Tendere Location, when James Gwaro (55) was allegedly assaulted by 41 year old Jared Machongo.

In a report filed at Ogembo Police Station, the area Chief Josephine Obuya indicated that she received an urgent call at around 3.00 pm alerting her of the violent attack.

Police say the suspect allegedly turned violent after the clan elder went to question him over claims that he had refused to take his children to school.

In the ensuing confrontation, Gwaro sustained serious head injuries after being struck with a panga.

Officers from Ogembo Police Station swiftly responded to the scene, arrested the suspect, and recovered the weapon used in the attack.

The suspect was also found with head injuries.

Both men were rushed to Gucha SubCounty Hospital for treatment, where Gwaro’s condition was deemed critical, prompting his referral to Kisii Referral Hospital for specialised care.

The suspect was treated and later discharged in fair condition before being placed in police custody.
