Cow Killed in IED Explosion in Lamu East

Security agencies are investigating a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) explosion reported in Ishakani village, Lamu East that killed a cow yesterday morning.

According to a report filed at Kiunga Police Station, the incident was reported via phone call by village elder Barkale Shee.

He alerted authorities that a loud explosion had been heard north of Ishakani village at the BP 27 area, approximately 25 kilometres from the police station.

A multi agency security team promptly and tactically visited the scene, where preliminary findings indicated that a cow had detonated a suspected IED planted along a road.

Investigators believe the explosive may have been planted by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.

Security officers established that the blast occurred along a commonly used route.

The scene was secured and cleared, and members of the local community were advised to remain calm while staying alert.

Residents were urged to immediately report any suspicious objects or devices spotted along roads or footpaths.

No human casualties were reported during the incident.
