A 30 year old man has been confirmed dead following a crocodile attack at River Yala in Bondo, Siaya County.

The deceased, identified as John Otieno Okeyo, was attacked on separate dates reported on January 28 and 30 after he went to fetch water from the river at Othuro Village in Nyamonye Sub-Location, North Yimbo Location.

According to police, officers from Nyamonye Police Post, working jointly with Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers and members of the public, managed to recover the body from the shores of River Yala within the Nyamboyo area after a coordinated search.

Police said the body had visible physical injuries on the chest and waist, consistent with a wildlife attack.

The remains were transferred to Bondo Sub-County Mortuary, where they are being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Bondo have taken over the matter as investigations continue, while KWS is expected to assess the situation to prevent further wildlife-related incidents along the river.

Local authorities have urged residents living near River Yala to exercise caution when accessing the river, especially in areas known to be frequented by crocodiles.
