A police officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was injured in a robbery with violence incident today morning in Thika town.
According to a report recorded at Thika Police Station,the incident occurred at around 4:50am as the officer was heading to his rented residence within the town.
The victim, identified as Corporal James Kariuki Mungai of DCI Thika West, told police that he was confronted by two unknown gang members armed with a panga outside the gate to his residence.
The assailants reportedly attacked the officer, cutting him on the left side of the head before robbing him of his mobile phone, a Samsung A16.
They then fled the scene on foot, leaving the officer injured.
The officer was assisted by the caretaker of the residential premises and rushed to Central Memorial Hospital, where he received treatment.
Police confirmed that he was treated and later discharged in stable condition.
Detectives from DCI Thika West have taken over investigations, with the case currently listed as pending under investigation (PUI).
Efforts to trace and arrest the suspects are ongoing as police intensify patrols and follow up leads related to the attack.
