Mystery surrounds the sudden death of a Nairobi-based businessman who was found unconscious inside his vehicle in Kirinyaga county due to drugging.
The incident, reported at Gathoge Police Station yesterday night began with an alert from a local village elder who noticed an abandoned vehicle in Gituto area earlier in the day.
Police officers, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kirinyaga East and scene of crime personnel from Kerugoya, responded swiftly to the scene along the Difathas–Gituto murram road in Njukiini.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a silver Mazda Axela, registration number KCZ 640N, parked off a feeder road with its engine still running.
Inside the vehicle, a man was found seated in the driver’s seat, unconscious and leaning to one side, with visible vomit on his cheek—raising immediate suspicion of possible poisoning or stupefying.
The man was later identified as Alfred Muriithi Muriuki aged 35,a businessman based in Nairobi.
His identity was confirmed by his brother, Kelvin Rukenya Muriuki, who arrived at the scene.
Family members, led by his father Jimmy Muriuki Migwi, rushed him to Embu Level 5 Hospital in sn attempt to save his life.
However, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Preliminary accounts indicate that the vehicle had been spotted at the location as early as 8:00 a.m. the same day.
Witnesses reported seeing an unidentified woman hastily alighting from the car before walking towards Difathas Shopping Centre, a detail that investigators are now treating as crucial to the case.
The body of the deceased has been preserved at the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of his death.
Meanwhile, the vehicle has been towed to Gathoge Police Station for further forensic analysis as detectives pursue leads into what is currently being treated as a case pending investigation.
Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in identifying the woman or shedding light on the incident to come forward.
