A police officer attached to Athi River Police Station was on Friday arrested and placed in custody after allegedly reporting to duty while drunk and threatening to shoot staff at a local bank.
The incident occurred at the KCB Bank offices within the Intercounty area, Athi River South Sub-County.
According to a police report,the officer a Constable who had been deployed on day shift alongside a colleague was assigned to man the KCB offices and conduct foot patrols in the area, at around 10:00am.
Information was received by his seniors indicating that the officer was intoxicated while on duty and was allegedly threatening to shoot KCB staff, accusing them of withholding payments meant for police officers.
The In-Charge of Lines and Discipline accompanied by Orderly and other officers, swiftly responded to the scene.
The officers managed to disarm the officer and was escorted back to Athi River Police Station.
However, upon arrival at the station, the officer reportedly turned violent, forcing officers to place him in custody.
While in the cells, he damaged window panes by hitting them with his fists, sustaining injuries to his hands in the process.
He remains in police custody as investigations continue, with the matter being handled by the DCI Athi River South.
