A police officer attached to Diani Police Station in Kwale County is recovering in hospital after he and his wife were attacked by a drunken girlfriend of a neighbour police officer during a late night disturbance at their residence in the Markaz area of Diani.
According to a police report recorded at Diani Police Station, the incident was reported today early morning by Justar Gacheri.
Gacheri told police that she and her husband, Police Constable (Driver) Isaac Murage, were asleep in their house when their neighbour, Bernard Wachira, arrived home while heavily intoxicated in the company of his girlfriend, Jasmine Apiyo, who was also reportedly drunk.
The two allegedly began shouting within the compound while requesting to be given a protective cover, prompting other neighbours to reprimand them over the use of vulgar language in an area where young children reside.
The report indicates that the situation escalated when Apiyo allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and attacked the couple.
During the assault Murage sustained a deep cut on the palm of his left hand while his wife suffered a cut on the stomach.
Officers led by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Diani and a patrol team visited the scene and arrested the two suspects.
The injured victims were rushed to Diani Beach Hospital where Murage was admitted in stable condition for specialised treatment, while his wife was treated and later discharged.
Police said the case remains under investigation at Diani Police Station.
