Two men were arrested in Muramba Market, Samia in Busia county after they allegedly impersonated police officers and harassing members of the public, police have confirmed.
According to a report filed at Sioport Police Station on Friday evening,the incident was reported by Brian Egesa, who said the suspects were stopping motorcycles while claiming to be police officers.
The suspects were identified as Caroly Musungu (38) and Brian Musungu (24), both residents of Samia.
Members of the public became suspicious after noticing that the suspects’ conduct did not match that of trained police officers.
The crowd confronted and subdued the two before alerting the police.
Officers responded promptly and rescued the suspects from a potential mob attack.
During the commotion, one of the suspects, Brian sustained a head injury.
Both suspects were escorted to Sioport Police Station and are currently in custody.
Police said the two will be arraigned at Port Victoria Law Courts on Monday as investigations continue under the Sioport Police Station.
Police have urged members of the public to verify the identity of officers and to report suspected impostors promptly to avoid incidents of mob injustice.
