Police in Kilimani,Nairobi have arrested and booked at the station a man accused of impersonating a military officer.
It occured after he was found using a stolen military identification card.
They added that he was using the ID to obtain subsidized goods.
He has been identified as Silah Ouma Abongo who was arrested along KMC Landis Road and later escorted to Kilimani Police Station.
The incident occured yesterday.
According to police reports, the arrest was made by three military officers Sergeant Purity Chelagat, Sergeant Cliffton and Senior Private Kevin Odero who became suspicious of the suspect’s activities.
Upon inspection, Abongo was found in possession of a military card belonging to Edwin Chetty Atsango, an active service officer.
Investigations indicate that the suspect had been using the stolen military card to illegally access cheap goods from the Armed Forces Canteen Organisation (AFCO) by falsely presenting himself as a serviceman.
Police noted that the suspect appeared visibly intoxicated at the time of booking and was immediately placed in custody.
Kilimani police command indicated that he will remain detained as interrogations and further investigations continue.
They are preparing to charge him with charges of impersonation and fraud.
They have at the same time warned members of the public and service institutions to remain vigilant against impersonators exploiting military identity for personal gain
