Fire Breaks Out at Nyakeiri Secondary School Dormitory in Kisii

A fire broke out at Nyakeiri Secondary School on Tuesday destroying property of unknown value in the Ruri dormitory, which houses 88 Grade 10 students.

According to the school principal, Gilbert Siriba, the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m., shortly after students and teachers returned to class following the morning break.

Teacher on duty, David Pipo, noticed smoke and raised the alarm, but initial attempts to contain the fire were unsuccessful.

A fire engine from Kisii County Government was called in and extinguished the blaze by 12:40 p.m.

Authorities, including Kisii County Scenes of Crime personnel and Marani Sub County security officers, visited the scene to investigate.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and a police are investigating its cause.
