Fire tragedy claims life of two year old child at Shelly Beach,Mombasa

A tragic fire incident has claimed the life of a two and a half year old child in the Mwanazia area,Shelly Beach.

According to a report filed at Shelly Beach Police Station,Mombasa on Friday evening the incident occurred at around 5:00 pm.

A village elder from Mwanazia alerted authorities after a residential house was engulfed in flames.

Police officers led by the duty officer rushed to the scene and established that the affected house belonged to Ali Bin Salim a resident of the area.

Firefighters from the Mombasa County Government, with assistance from members of the public, managed to extinguish the fire.

Following the incident, it was discovered that a minor identified as Yusuf Omar aged approximately 2.5 years, had tragically lost his life in the fire.

Police investigations revealed that the child had been left sleeping inside the house by his mother, Rahma Hussein Arab, aged who had briefly gone to pick another child from school.

Officers from the Scenes of Crime (SCCI) Likoni processed the scene, and the child’s body was transferred to Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and investigations are ongoing.
