A 16 year old student from Bunangeni Secondary School in Webuye West, Bungoma County, has died following a tragic accident during a school sports activity.
According to a report filed at Bokoli Police Station, the incident occurred on Friday at around 4:00 pm while students were participating in a javelin game within the school grounds.
During the activity, the student, identified as Samwel Baraza Wekesa, was accidentally struck and sustained serious injuries.
The school principal, Simon Tumelela, reported that the student was rushed to Bungoma County Referral Hospital for emergency treatment but sadly succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care.
His body was later transferred to Bungoma County Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Police described the incident as a lawful sporting accident.
Investigations have been initiated, with officers from Webuye West Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office (SCCIO) handling the matter.
Authorities have expressed condolences to the family and the school community as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
