Four residents of Madina village in Wajir West were injured in the early hours of Friday morning after a hyena attacked them while they slept in their homes.
According to a report filed at Griftu Police Station, the incident occurred at around 3:00 a.m. in Madina within Arberjahan Location.
The matter was reported at 12:45 p.m. by four locals through the Arberjahan Location Chief, Ibrahim Rashid.
Police said the victims were attacked inside their houses by the wild animal, resulting in serious injuries to their hands.
The injured persons were identified as Sarah Abdullahi Birik, aged 34, who sustained injuries to three fingers on her right hand,Sarah Dunto Hirsi, 36, who suffered injuries to her left hand below the wrist, Ethoy Hassan Dunto, a 12 year old minor, who was injured on her left hand below the elbow and Mariam Hassan Dunto, aged six, who sustained injuries to her right thumb.
The Officer Commanding Police Post (OCPP) at Arberjahan has launched investigations into the incident as concerns grow over the increasing threat posed by stray wild animals in residential areas.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report sightings of dangerous wildlife to security agencies and wildlife officers to prevent further attacks.
