Police in Nakuru have arrested a gang leader during a security crackdown targeting criminal networks within Kaptembwo area.
The operation, conducted by officers from Kaptembwo, led to the capture of the suspect aged 21 years and believed to have been on the run following an earlier police dragnet in February.
According to police reports, the suspect identified as Francis Nderitu Maina, alias “Maish”—was apprehended after officers acting on intelligence tracked him to a hideout in the Gioto area.
Police describe him as a leader of the outlawed “Isilando” sect, which has been linked to criminal activities within the Gioto slums, commonly referred to as Hilton.
The suspect is accused of involvement in multiple robbery with violence incidents reported earlier this month, as well as previous offences including unlawful assembly, incitement to violence, and drug dealing.
During the arrest, officers recovered a military style sword, described as a USA saber.
Further searches at his makeshift residence led to the discovery of a homemade pistol constructed using a wooden frame and steel pipe concealed in a blue canvas behind the house.
Police have detained the suspect at Kaptembwo Police Station, where he is awaiting arraignment in court upon completion of investigations.
Police disclosed that the exhibits have been secured as evidence, and the case remains under active investigation.
