Garissa Cashier Flees The Country With Sh1.3 Million Meant for Company Vehicle

Police in Garissa are investigating a case of theft by servant after a company cashier allegedly disappeared with Sh 1.3 million entrusted to him for the purchase of a motor vehicle.

According to reports recorded at Garissa Police Station, the incident was reported by Musa Kune of Saafi Cleaning Company.

He stated that the company cashier, identified as Ibrahim Ahmed Garag, received the money on behalf of the company from the Kenya Climate Innovation Centre for the purpose of buying a company vehicle.

However, the vehicle was never purchased and the suspect reportedly switched off his mobile phone after withdrawing the funds.

A follow up investigation revealed that the suspect first withdrew Sh 100,000 from an ABSA Bank branch in Garissa before travelling to Nairobi, where he withdrew the remaining amount.

Police further established that he proceeded to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and booked a RwandAir flight destined for Johannesburg, South Africa.

The case has been listed as pending arrest, with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Garissa pursuing the suspect.
