A night out turned chaotic in Ndumberi, Kiambu County, after a police officer discharged his firearm in the air following a disagreement inside a local bar.
According to a police report, the incident occurred in the early hours of today at Viceroy Bar and Restaurant.
Two officers attached to Githunguri police station had visited the establishment when one of them reportedly became intoxicated.
In the course of the night, Kamau is said to have accidentally knocked down a female patron.
His colleague a Corporal too intervened in an attempt to calm the situation.
However, the intervention allegedly angered the officer who responded by firing several shots into the air using his service pistol.
Police reports indicate that a total of five rounds of ammunition were discharged.
The situation was quickly brought under control after the officer disarmed his colleague and secured the firearm.
Police confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident, despite the alarming gunfire.
A spent round was later recovered at the scene and handed over to police by a member of the public.
The firearm has since been surrendered to the armoury and is set to undergo ballistic analysis as part of ongoing investigations.
All officers involved have recorded statements.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has opened an inquiry file into the matter, which is currently being handled by Kiambu East detectives.
