A sombre mood has engulfed Emakhwari “A” Village in Khwisero, Kakamega County, following the death of a three year old following a domestic violence.
According to police reports filed at Khwisero Police Station, the incident was reported by Mundeku Sub location acting Chief Beatrice Otete, who alerted police of a suspected murder in her area.
Officers and their DCI officers from Mundeku Police Post responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of the child lying on a bed inside the family house.
Preliminary accounts indicate that the child’s mother, Jackline Amati, had left the home the previous night following a domestic dispute with her husband, Bethwel Alubokho.
The disagreement reportedly occurred at around 10:00 pm, prompting her to seek refuge at a neighbour’s house, leaving the child in the care of the stepfather.
When she returned the following morning (today) at around 7:00 am, she found the house locked from the inside and her husband missing.
After breaking the padlock, she discovered the child unresponsive on the bed.
Police noted that the body bore no visible external injuries.
However, mucous discharge from the mouth and nose raised suspicions of possible strangulation.
The scene was processed and documented by investigators, and the body was moved to Sonak Hospital Mortuary for preservation and a postmortem examination.
The suspect remains at large, and detectives have launched a manhunt as investigations continue.
