A senior Busia County official was last night robbed at gunpoint.
The County Executive Member Committee of roads and public works in Busia Topista Wanyama was robbed after a gang of five men stormed her home.
One of the gangsters was armed with an AK-47 rifle and they stormed her rural home in Buyende village, Bukhayo West, Matayos.
The attackers, who reportedly scaled the perimeter wall using ropes, struck at about 10pm.
They overpowered the occupants before making away with two iPhones valued at Sh247,000 and two HP laptops worth Sh95,000.
The county official sustained a minor injury on the forehead during the ordeal.
She was treated at Pesi Hospital in Busia and later discharged in stable condition.
Police who visited the scene including senior officers from Busia, detectives, and personnel from Esikulu Police Post established that the gang fired two rounds into the air as they escaped, triggering a security operation in the area.
Officers are combing the scene and surrounding villages in search of spent cartridges and clues that could lead to the suspects arrest.
The incident has been booked by police as a robbery with violence and shooting case as police intensify patrols to track down the armed gang.
