High Court orders Government to compensate Criticos with Sh30 Million

The High Court has ordered the government to compensate former Taita-Taveta MP Basil Criticos with Sh30 million for the violation of his constitutional property rights. The ruling follows the destruction of his factory and approximately 4,400 acres of sisal plantation, which were burned down between 1998 and 1999.
The court determined that the state failed in its duty to protect his property during the unrest that led to the extensive losses. As a result, the government has been directed to pay damages as redress for the significant financial and economic harm he suffered.
