Residents of Mugumoini village in Nyangati location, Mwea, Kirinyaga County, were left in shock yesterday after the body of a 28 year old Junior Secondary School (JSS) teacher was discovered dumped near Nyamindi River under suspicious circumstances.
The deceased, identified as Betty Wanjiru Nyaga, was found with severe injuries on the head, thighs and legs, as well as bruises on the face, indicating that she may have been brutally attacked before her body was abandoned at the scene.
Preliminary investigations by detectives suggest that the location where the body was found may not be the primary crime scene.
Investigators believe the killing could have occurred elsewhere before the body was transported and dumped near the river.
Police further revealed that the victim’s boyfriend is the main suspect in the case.
Detectives established that shortly after the suspected killing, the man allegedly set ablaze their four roomed house, which was completely destroyed by fire.
Police suspect the house may have been the primary crime scene where the fatal attack occurred before attempts were made to conceal evidence.
The body of the slain teacher was later moved to Kibugi Funeral Home as investigations continue.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect who remains at large as detectives intensify efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
