KCSE Results Spark Night of Chaos at Kanyawanga High School in Migori County

Learning at Kanyawanga High School in Rongo,Migori county was thrown into turmoil on Monday night after students went on a destructive rampage, protesting poor performance in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

The unrest saw students storm out of evening prep classes, hurl stones at school buildings and set ablaze a dormitory identified as Lwanda West.

Police officers from Kamagambo Police Station, assisted by members of the public, rushed to the school and managed to extinguish the fire before it spread further.

Several structures were vandalised during the chaos, including the principal’s office and the examinations office, causing significant damage.

The students reportedly accused the school administration of failing to improve academic performance and the institution’s image following the release of the 2025 KCSE results.

Order was later restored through a joint effort involving police officers, the school administration, and the Sub-County Security and Intelligence Committee.

However, authorities noted that several students escaped from the school during the unrest and remain unaccounted for.

The scene was secured and processed as investigations commenced.

Police have since been deployed at the school to maintain order as assessments continue.

The value of damaged property is yet to be established, while investigations is ongoing
