KENSJA elects new leaders

By Our Correspondent,Nairobi.

The Kenya Environment and Science Journalists Association (KENSJA) has held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and elected new members.

During the AGM, members conducted a review of the association’s Constitution, adopting amendments to align it with evolving industry realities.

The meeting also provided a platform for robust discussions on the challenges and emerging opportunities facing science journalists in Kenya, particularly in an era of rapid environmental change and growing demand for accurate science communication.

In the elections that followed, Judith Akolo, who previously served as Deputy Chair, was unanimously elected as the new President of KENSJA. She will be deputised by Verenardo Meeme.

The position of Secretary General was secured by Gilbert Nakweya, with Nanjinwa Wamuswa elected as his deputy.

Samwel Doe Ouma was elected Treasurer, assisted by Lenah Bosibori.

Other officials elected include Osman Maalim. Committee Members elected to serve in the new team are Gilbert Koech, Carol Chebet, Bruhan Makong, and Jael Opicho.
Meanwhile, outgoing Chairman Duncan Mboya has been elevated to the role of Patron, ensuring continuity and mentorship within the association.

The new leadership is expected to steer KENSJA towards strengthening science journalism in Kenya, fostering collaboration, and enhancing the capacity of journalists to effectively report on environmental and scientific issues.
