Kenya’s agricultural exports to China will begin entering the Asian market duty-free from May 1, 2026, in a move expected to boost earnings for farmers and agribusinesses.
Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the development after holding talks with Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan. He noted that the agreement delivers on trade commitments secured during President William Ruto’s recent state visit to China.
Kagwe said the removal of tariffs will enhance Kenya’s competitiveness by opening up China’s vast consumer market of more than 1.4 billion people to locally produced goods.
Products set to benefit from the duty-free access include tea, coffee, avocados, macadamia nuts, flowers and fresh horticultural produce.
