Kilgoris Master of Ceremony MC. Manywele has completed an extraordinary 215-kilometre walk from Kilgoris to Narok, in a powerful campaign aimed at sensitizing the Maa community on the importance of preserving their culture, heritage, and protecting natural trees.
The journey, which began in Kilgoris town, drew crowds of residents who gathered to witness the launch of a campaign rooted in cultural pride and environmental conservation.
Setting off on foot, MC. Manywele carried a message of unity, responsibility, and awareness, using the long walk as a symbol of commitment and sacrifice in safeguarding the identity and environment of his people.
Along the route, the MCA made several stopovers at towns and trading centres, where both elders and youth turned out in large numbers to show their support.
These stopovers became platforms for dialogue, with MC. Manywele passionately addressing young people on the value of Maa traditions, including language, dress, rites of passage, respect for elders, and communal living.
He stressed that modernization should coexist with cultural pride rather than erase indigenous identity.
Environmental conservation formed a key pillar of his campaign, with particular emphasis on the protection of natural trees.
He reminded community members that trees are central to the Maa way of life, supporting rainfall patterns, livestock survival, and the broader ecosystem.
In a predominantly pastoral region, he noted, environmental degradation poses a direct threat to livelihoods.
By linking cultural preservation with tree conservation, he underscored the deep connection between heritage and nature.
The journey culminated in Narok, where the completion of the 215 kilometres was met with a warm reception, reflecting the community’s appreciation of his efforts.
The walk has since sparked conversations across the region on cultural sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the role of youth in protecting heritage.
Overall, MC. Manywele’s walk went beyond physical endurance, emerging as a grassroots movement to awaken cultural consciousness and environmental stewardship within the Maa community.
His action demonstrated leadership by example and served as a reminder that preserving culture and protecting natural resources are shared responsibilities for both present and future generations.
