A coalition of leaders under the Nairobi Western and Nyanza Political Caucus has strongly condemned the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, terming it a grave threat to democratic governance and public safety.
In a press conference at a Nairobi hotel today led by its chairperson Dinah Awour Agai, they described the assault in Kisumu as unacceptable, warning that violence must never be used to settle disputes or intimidate elected leaders.
Also present at the briefing were Hassan Indusa Kisagalwa and Margaret Anyango Wayona.
“This act of violence by criminals against a public servant is unacceptable. We condemn it in the strongest terms possible,” they said.
The leaders cautioned that the country is approaching a sensitive political period ahead of the 2027 General Election, urging restraint among political actors and the public.
They referenced the painful legacy of the 2007–2008 Kenyan post-election violence as a reminder of the dangers of political intolerance.
“Political competition must never become an excuse for violence and lawlessness,” they said.
The caucus also raised concern over attempts to exploit the incident to fuel ethnic divisions, particularly between the Luo and Luhya communities, which they noted have coexisted peacefully for generations.
“Any attempts to turn a criminal act into a vehicle for ethnic polarization are dangerous and irresponsible,” the statement added.
At the same time, the leaders welcomed the swift action by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in arresting key suspects linked to the attack and called for a thorough and transparent investigation.
“The perpetrators of this heinous act must be brought to justice, and those who incited or financed the violence must also be held accountable,” the caucus stated.
They further urged political, religious, and civil society leaders to promote unity and dialogue, emphasizing that safeguarding peace and national cohesion remains a shared responsibility.
