Leadership wrangles rock Mau Mau Veterans as new Chairman vows compensation audit

By Our Reporter,Nairobi.

The Mau Mau War Veterans Association is once again at the center of controversy following a leadership takeover by the acting chairman of Upendo Welfare Society, Prophet Paul Mwangi Gatundu.

Gatundu has declared that he has assumed control of the association’s leadership and pledged to initiate a comprehensive follow up on the 2013 compensation payout of Sh2.6 billion issued by the UK Government.

The funds were intended to compensate Kenyan victims of colonial era abuses during the Mau Mau uprising.

According to Gatundu, his priority is to establish the exact beneficiaries of the compensation, amid longstanding concerns over transparency and distribution of the funds.

Meanwhile, the association remains embroiled in a legal battle to determine its legitimate leadership.

The dispute pits long time chairman Gitu Kahengeri against rival claimant Joseph Muiruri.

The ongoing court case is expected to play a crucial role in resolving the leadership impasse, which has for years hampered the association’s operations and efforts to advocate for veterans’ welfare.

Observers note that the outcome of both the court ruling and the proposed audit could significantly shape the future of the association and its accountability to its members.
