Residents of Luanda,Vihiga county today staged demonstrations to protest the rising wave of insecurity that has left more than six people dead in the last five months.
The protests were led by the area Member of Dick Maungu.
He joined residents in demanding immediate action from security agencies over the deteriorating safety situation in the town.
Demonstrators marched through the town before presenting a memorandum to police commanders at Luanda Police Station, calling for urgent investigations into the killings and a complete overhaul of the local police leadership.
The petition was received by the area OCPD and OCS.
According to residents, the recent killings, many involving gunshots have raised alarm over declining security standards and what they described as administrative failures within the local police command.
The protests were further fueled by the recent killing of an M-Pesa attendant in Luanda a few weeks ago, an incident that shocked the community and intensified fears among local business operators.
While addressing the demonstrators, Luanda OCPD Richard Siele assured residents that police would intensify patrols and strengthen security measures to protect businesses and residents operating within the town.
“I want to assure the people of Luanda that we will increase patrols and ensure that everyone conducting business here is safe together with their property,” he said.
As investigations continue, the community’s demand for accountability and reforms within the local security apparatus continues to grow, underscoring the urgent need for decisive action to restore public confidence in the policing system across Luanda Division.
