Maina Njenga Condemns Othaya Church Attack as an Assault on Faith and National Unity

By Our Reporter,Nairobi.

Former Mungiki leader and current Bishop of Hope International Ministries, Maina Njenga, has strongly condemned the attack on a church in Othaya, Nyeri County, that occurred on Sunday while Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua was attending a service.

Speaking in Nairobi on Sunday, Njenga termed the incident a grave violation of the sanctity of places of worship, stressing that churches must never be turned into arenas for political intolerance, violence, or intimidation.

He warned that such acts threaten not only religious freedom but also national cohesion and peaceful coexistence among Kenyans.

Njenga was addressing congregants and leaders after attending a well attended church service hosted by the Global Cathedral Church at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The service brought together senior clergy, political leaders, and Christians from across the country, many of whom expressed concern over the rising trend of unrest and confrontations spilling into religious spaces.

Njenga also known as “Ndovu” called on political leaders to exercise restraint and responsibility, urging them to discourage their supporters from engaging in acts that could inflame tensions.

He emphasized that differences in political opinion should be addressed through dialogue and democratic processes, not violence or disruption of worship.

Njenga further appealed to security agencies to conduct thorough investigations into the Othaya incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable, noting that justice would help restore public confidence and deter similar incidents in the future.

He also urged church leaders to continue playing their role as voices of peace and reconciliation, especially during times of heightened political activity.

According to Njenga, the church should remain a unifying institution that brings communities together, promotes moral values, and fosters national harmony.

The Sunday service at KICC concluded with prayers for peace, stability, and unity in the country, as leaders called on Kenyans to respect one another, protect places of worship, and reject violence in all its forms.
