Man Killed in Luanda Over Tree Dispute

A 60 year old man was brutally murdered on Sunday evening in a shocking domestic dispute over a tree.

The incident occured at Hangai Village, Ebuhando Location, Luanda Sub-County, Vihiga County.

According to a report filed at Luanda Police Station, the incident occurred at about 5:30pm and was reported by Ebuhando Area Chief,Grace Adino.

The deceased, identified as Jackton Khakili, was allegedly attacked by his 23 year old stepson, Philip Okusi, following a disagreement over a tree.

Police say a neighbour, Patronila Apamo, received information from the suspect himself, who went to her homestead and confessed that he had fought with his stepfather and cut him several times, leaving him unresponsive.

Upon following him to the scene, she confirmed the victim had sustained serious injuries to the head and neck.

Officers who visited the scene recovered a sharp panga believed to be the murder weapon, which had been hidden under a mattress in the house where the suspect sleeps.

By the time police arrived, villagers had already moved the body from the scene, citing fears that heavy rains could wash it away.

The suspect was arrested by members of the public after being assaulted and sustaining injuries to the head.

He was first treated at Coptic Hospital before being escorted to Luanda Police Station, where he is being held pending investigations.

The body of the deceased was taken to Coptic Morgue for preservation and postmortem examination.

Detectives from the Luanda Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office have taken over the case as investigations continue.
