A man has died following a mob justice incident in the Matini area near Waithaka Shopping Centre in Dagoretti, Nairobi.

According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of today at around 4.00 a.m., approximately one kilometre from Kabete Police Station.

The case was reported by Stephen Wachira, who alleged that the deceased had been caught stealing farm produce, specifically bananas from his farm.

Police officers from Matini Police Post rushed to the scene after receiving the report.

Upon arrival, officers established that the victim, identified as Stephen Ndwiga, aged about 50 years, had been subjected to mob violence by members of the public.

He was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was later transferred to City Mortuary, where it was admitted for preservation and a post mortem examination.

Police have classified the matter as pending under investigation (P.U.I.), with detectives from Dagoretti Division Criminal Investigations Office taking over the case.

Authorities have once again condemned mob justice, urging members of the public to report suspected criminal activity to the police rather than taking the law into their own hands.
